Real-time Energy Consumption Detection

This project involves the design and development of a home energy consumption monitoring system, using an Arduino-based prototype that measures electrical usage in real time. The collected data is sent to a web application built with Python on the backend, Angular on the frontend, and MySQL as the database, where users can view statistics, consumption patterns, and energy usage reports.

The main goal is to raise awareness about household energy consumption in Barranquilla, helping people identify how and when they use the most electricity — so they can make decisions that reduce energy spending, save money, and contribute to environmental care. The project was developed through applied research with a quantitative approach, using surveys to gather information and the Scrum agile methodology for system development.

Challenge & Solution

Challenge: The lack of awareness and control over household energy consumption, which can lead to unnecessary expenses and energy waste.

Solution: Develop a system using Arduino and a web application that allows real-time energy consumption monitoring and displays statistics, helping users make informed decisions to save energy.

Final Result

The final result is a fully functional home energy consumption monitoring system, consisting of an Arduino prototype capable of measuring electrical usage and a web application that displays statistics, reports, and real-time consumption data. This enables users to gain greater control over their energy use, identify consumption habits, and make decisions to reduce costs and improve energy efficiency.
